Dimitris Komninos

Born in the bustling heart of New York City in 1963, Dimitris Komninos carries within him the rhythm and pulse of the world's theater capital. His illustrious credentials are a testament to his commitment and passion—whether it's his invaluable association with prestigious entities like the Hellenic Centre of the International Theatre Institute (UNESCO) or his designation as a Meisner Technique acting teacher, an accolade few can boast. A graduate of Emerson College, Boston, Dimitris doesn't merely hold a degree; having directed more than 20 seminal stage productions across a diverse spectrum of dramaturgy, he embodies the essence of performance.

In Athens, from his early days working alongside the legendary Andreas Voutsinas to spearheading initiatives like the ODYSSEIA CULTURAL PROJECT and Theater Platform 90οC, Dimitris Komninos has consistently showcased his commitment to the evolution and enrichment of theatrical arts.

Dimitris's tenure as the Artistic Director of THEATROVICTORIA and his teaching journey at Athens Drama School are emblematic of his dedication to nurturing budding talent. His multi-cultural approach has not only impacted Greek theater but has also resonated on the international stage.

His Work

He has translated to Greek, Tennessee Williams’s plays: “Summer and Smoke” for the National Theatre of Nothern Greece, and “Glass Menagerie” for the Regional Theatre of Larissa – “Thessaliko Theatro” (also performed at the National Theatre in Athens) both productions under the direction of the internationally acclaimed stage director Andreas Voutsinas, under whom he worked, as an assistant director, for a number of years at several theatrical and musical productions. He has translated and directed Marsha Norman’s “Third & Oak the Laundromat” (Epi Kolono theatre), directed Eugene Ionesco’s “The Bald Soprano” (Epi Kolono theatre, National Theatre of Northern Greece and THEATROVICTORIA), directed “Matchbox” written by Yiannis Oikonomides (THEATROVICTORIA), directed “Logo Fatsas” by Yorgos Dialegmenos (Regional Theatre of Larissa – Thessaliko Theatro and THEATROVICTORIA), translated and directed Tom Stoppard’s “The Real Inspector Hound” (THEATROVICTORIA), translated and directed Grae Cleugh’s “Fu**ing Games” (THEATROVICTORIA), translated and directed Nicki Silver’s “Fit to Be Tied” (THEATROVICTORIA), directed “Amen” by Alkyone Valsari (Vault Theater Plus), directed Eugene Ionesco’s “The Lesson” (BIOS) and Hugh Whitmore’s “Breaking the code” (BIOS).

He was the Artistic Director of THEATROVICTORIA (2006 – 2015).
He has taught acting at Athens Drama School – “G. Theodosiades” (2014 – 2023).
